Colombia

“Barranquilla, the Golden Gate of Colombia, the Open Arms of America, home to the second biggest carnival in the world. My home. In its sandy breath Joy and Despair danced mad salsa, animal spirits watched over football games, and donkey cart drivers became daredevil captains on the raging waters of flash floods. Here I built friendships stronger than space and time. Here I loved a woman with fire in her heart and onyx eyes. Here Indigenous Grandfathers broke me into pieces and reassembled me into something I was yet to discover.”
